Frequently asked questions

Got Questions? Dive into our FAQs below for all your queries about our data and platform.

Data

Bizstats sources its data from a trusted network of business brokers throughout New Zealand. Each month, licensed brokers submit details of businesses they have successfully sold. This data is then reviewed, verified, categorised, and added to our comprehensive database. This collaborative approach ensures we capture real market transactions from across the country, providing you with genuine, market-based insights.

Our database is updated monthly as we receive new submissions from our network of business brokers. This regular update cycle ensures you have access to current market trends and recent comparable sales data. Our historical database also spans over 20 years, giving you both current insights and long-term trend analysis.

Yes! We have a comprehensive terminology guide available on our blog. Visit the "Bizstats Terminology" article where we explain each data field in detail, including Sale Price, Annual Revenue, Gross Profit, SDE (Seller's Discretionary Earnings), EBITDA, and all other metrics. You can also refer to our "Market Based Valuation 101" guide for broader concepts.

While we take great care to verify and validate all submitted data, Bizstats reports are provided for informational purposes only. The data comes from real business sales as reported by licensed brokers, but we cannot guarantee absolute accuracy as business valuations involve many subjective factors. We recommend using Bizstats data as one input in your due diligence process alongside other valuation methods and professional advice.

ANZSIC (Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification) is the standard classification system used to categorise business activities across Australia and New Zealand. It helps organize businesses into meaningful groups based on their primary activity. In Bizstats, we use ANZSIC codes to categorise businesses, making it easier for you to find relevant comparable sales data. We have a dedicated blog article "Understanding ANZSIC" that explains this in detail.

No. To protect the confidentiality of buyers and sellers, all business sale data in Bizstats is anonymised. You will see transaction details such as sale price, revenue, location, and industry category, but not the business name or identifying information. This confidentiality is essential for maintaining trust with our broker network and complying with privacy requirements.

No. User privacy and data confidentiality are paramount to Bizstats. We do not disclose information about who accesses or purchases specific reports.
